Australia’s number two carrier, backed by China’s HNA Group, has unveiled a dramatic restructuring plan to help turn things around. Virgin Australia Group CEO and managing director Paul Scurrah will build a new executive leadership team that includes a new CFO, chief commercial officer and chief operating officer. Virgin is also now looking for a chief strategy and technology officer.

At the same time, he has created a new position of chief experience officer. This role will create a single point of accountability for the customer experience across all brands.

The 750 job cuts are part of a wide-ranging operational review after Virgin Australia reported a seventh consecutive annual loss. Along with shrinking its corporate and head office staff, the carrier plans to review its fleet and routes and will cut some international and domestic flights.
