Worker killed after highway collapse
One worker has been killed, and ten others injured, after part of highway construction in Changi collapsed early this morning.
A statement by Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) indicates that the deceased worker was from the People’s Republic of China, along with three of the injured. The other seven injured workers are from Bangledesh.
“The contractor, Or Kim Peow Contractors Pte Ltd was carrying out works to cast the decking for the new viaduct adjacent to the slip road from Upper Changi Road East to PIE (Changi),” said a statement from the LTA. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the corbels supporting the pre-cast beams had given way”
“We are saddened by the accident and will do whatever we can to assist the families during this difficult time. LTA officers have been assigned to help the injured workers and the families.”
The LTA has ordered a safety time-out at all other work sites this morning while it undertakes safety investigations into the accident.
