Japan tops overseas jobs destination for South Koreans

The prospect of getting a job overseas continues to be a challenge for South Koreans., with Japan being the most popular destination.

According to job search engine Incruit, more South Koreans found jobs in Japan than in the United states last year.

About 1,427 South Koreans landed jobs in Japan in 2017 in contrast to the 1,079 who found them in the United States.

Some 505 South Koreans found work in Singapore, 385 in Australia, 385 in Vietnam, 268 in China, and 123 in Indonesia.

Based on last year’s data, the prospect of getting a job overseas continues to be a challenge for South Koreans.

Incruit stated that only 22.3%, or 5,118 out of 22,997 South Korean job seekers, got hired in foreign countries last year.

That figure, however, is triple what it was three years earlier when it was 1,679.

Incruit arrived at that figure after analysing statistics from the Human Resources Development Service of Korea.

Of those South Koreans that obtained jobs abroad last year 3,419 or 66.8% got office or service jobs.
