New ecozone to create over 10,000 jobs in Bangladesh

The opening of a new economic zone in Bangladesh is expected to create over 10,000 jobs, and a total of nearly 60,000 jobs indirectly.
Business conglomerate Bashundhara Group was awarded the licence for the East West Special Economic Zone Limited by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority.
The zone, the tenth of its kind, will take up some 100 acres of land Keraniganj upazila (borough) of Dhaka.
It is expected to be populated with some 20 manufacturing factories – producing liquid petroleum gas cylinders, powder coated paint, bitume, polypropylene bags, among other things.
Paban Chowdhury, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority, granted the licence to Shafiat Sobhan, vice-chairman of Bashundhara Group and Managing Director of the new economic zone, during a recent ceremony.
