Taiwan to issue fourth round of COVID-19 relief subsidies

The subsidy package is set to benefit at least 7.3 million individuals, and will also be allocated to support various sectors.

The government is set to issue its fourth round of subsidies that will benefit at least 7.3 million individuals, said Premier Su Tseng-chang on Tuesday.

Of the total sum, NT$186.6 billion (US$6.7 billion) will go to subsidies allocated for individuals and businesses.

The subsidies for individuals will include a one-time subsidy of NT$10,000 (US$361) to NT$30,000 (US$1,083) for fishermen, farmers, tour guides, taxi drivers, and the self-employed, among others, he said, reports Focus Taiwan

The subsidies for individuals also include a one-time subsidy of NT$10,000 per child to families with children up to elementary school level and teenage students with disabilities.

Subsidies for businesses will include one-time payments to hard-hit industries, which include retail, tourism, transportation, education and the arts sector.

Although the relief package for all of the funding programmes have yet to be approved, the Cabinet has already begun to roll out select subsidies after passing a special act in 2020 to support people through the pandemic.
