Firms in Vietnam employed over 14.7 million workers in 2020

Over the same period, the number of private businesses and production establishments totalled nearly 5.2 million, an increase of 5.7% from 2016.

In 2020, Vietnam was home to 683,600 operational enterprises which employed over 14.7 million workers, recording an increase of 4.7% from 2016’s employment numbers, official data showed.

Over the 2016-2020 period, the number of companies in the country rose by 7.9% each year. However, this was still lower than the average of an 8.7% annual rise recorded between 2011 and 2016, writes Vietnam Plus.

In 2020, the number of private businesses and production establishments totalled nearly 5.2 million, an increase of 5.7% from 2016. 

Meanwhile, cooperatives noted an increase in its total number but a fall in the workforce, with 15,300 establishments registered in 2020, an increase of 17.5% from 2016. However, the number of workers employed under the category fell 15.6% from that of 2016, at 169,600 workers.

Census data from the General Statistics Office also showed that there was a fall in the number of non-business organisations and non-governmental organisations. However, religious establishments maintained their growth in terms of quantity and workforce.
