Over the weekend, some 600 new hires at semiconductor manufacturer Micron Singapore were given a first look into the company’s workplace culture and practices, as part of its inaugural mass “pre-onboarding” event.
The event is part of the Micron Talent Connect programme, which is designed to make incoming team members feel welcomed, feel a sense of pride in being part of Micron, as well as help establish connections with their peers, future team members, managers, and department heads.
Most of the 600 recruits represent top engineering talent from the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. These fresh graduates will begin their new roles in the third quarter of this year.
One event highlight was the Marshmallow Challenge, where participants exercised teamwork to build structures made out of spaghetti sticks and marshmallows.
At the welcome event, Micron’s Vice President and Singapore Country Manager, Chen Kok Sing, shared his insights on various aspects of working at Micron, as well as the reasons for starting the Talent Connect programme.
“As we grow our operations here, it is crucial that we attract and nurture the right talent within the organisation. Micron is an employer with heart, and the Micron Connect program has been developed to assure the new hires that they are making the right choice in joining the organisation,” said Chen.
Micron Singapore HR Director Tan Kia Hiang said a good onboarding experience allows new hires to experience “first-hand the camaraderie within the Micron team”, which is key to effective talent management.
“Investing in the well-being and development of our team members is integral to our company’s winning culture. It allows us to attract, develop and retain a talented and skilled workforce,” said Tan.
