Pakistan will need to create an additional 1.3 million jobs every year until 2035, owing to the country’s fast growing working-age population.
According to the United Nations Development Programme’s National Human Development Report, some 3.5 million Pakistanis are currently unemployed
An additional 1.4 million people are expected enter the workforce every year, over the next five years, as they hit working age.
With almost two-thirds (64%) of the country’s population currently under the age of 30, the percentage of retirees from the workforce will also be quite small.
The report said that up 43 million people will be unemployed by 2050 if sufficient jobs are not created.
It added that the agricultural sector, services industry, and hospitality sector are likely to have the greatest potential for creating new employment opportunities.
