Thailand aims to create over a million jobs with new stimulus

Further measures such as subsidies to encourage more hiring and domestic travel are expected to be rolled out in the near future.

Thailand plans to introduce more stimulus measures which will help create over a million jobs, deputy prime minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow said.

Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy is still reeling from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, having suffered its biggest contraction since the 1998 Asian financial crisis in the second quarter.

And Punmeechaow said that further measures such as subsidies to encourage more hiring and domestic travel will be rolled out in the near future.

The tourism and employment perks are expected to be put to cabinet for approval next week, he said after a meeting of a special task force tasked with reviving the economy.

“The job measures should create more than a million jobs, including 400,000 for new graduates,” he said.
