DOLE identifies ‘safe’ establishments in the Philippines

Business owners have been urged to get safety seals for their establishments in the country’s efforts to re-open the economy.

The Safety Seal Certification Programme aims to safely re-open the economy and reassure consumers and the public in general of an establishment’s compliance to the minimum public health standards, said Henry John Jalbuena, labor regional director at The Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE).

“We are calling on other establishments to obtain their own safety seals and take part in safely re-opening our economy,” Jalbuena said.

The safety seal issued by DOLE is valid for six months from the date of issuance and shall be displayed conspicuously at all entrance points of an establishment.

If there are legitimate complaints raised against a business, DOLE may revoke the certification.

DOLE will issue the certification for establishments in the manufacturing, construction, utilities, information and communication, and warehousing industries, according to the joint memorandum circular number 21-01 series of 2021.

The Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the different local government units are also authorised to issue the safety seal.

The first safety seal was awarded to Coca-Cola Beverage Philippines Inc in Tacloban City, and DOLE will also be awarding the safety seal to SC Global Food Products Inc, SC Global Coco Products Inc, and Specialty Pulp Manufacturing Inc, according to SunStar Philippines.
