Taiwan’s unemployment rate hits 6-month low in October

In October, a total of 456,000 people were out of work, down 15,000 from the previous month, as the domestic employment market continues to improve.

Taiwan’s jobless rate has fallen to a six-month low in October to 3.83%, marking a decline for the fourth straight month, according to official data.

The unemployment figure in October was 0.13 percentage points lower than that of September’s, data from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistic (DGBAS) showed.

In October, a total of 456,000 people were out of work, down 15,000 from the previous month. This was also the lowest number of unemployed workers in six months.

On the other hand, the number of employed workers rose by 28,000 to 11.445 million, which DGBAS attributed to the reopening of businesses.

Chen Hui-hsin, deputy director of the DGBAS census department, expects the domestic employment market and business climate to continue improving in November and December.

Taiwan’s unemployment rate rose to 4.8% in June, but gradually declined in July-October as the COVID-19 situation saw improvements.
