Malaysia disburses RM151 million in wage subsidies

Malaysia has disbursed some RM151 million (US$34.76 million) of wage subsidies, benefiting 6,853 employers and supporting the employment of 97,662 workers through its wage subsidy programme.
In total, the government has disbursed RM21 billion (US$4.83 billion) to 357,715 employers through the wage subsidy programme to maintain the employment of 2,956,607 local workers.
“Apart from that, the government, through the Ministry of Higher Education, has allocated RM100 million for the KPT-CAP initiative (career advancement programme) in an effort to address the issue of unemployed graduates,” said Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, according to Bernama.
“Up to April 8, the KPT-CAP programme had managed to place jobs for 11,750 graduates,” he added.

The government intends to continue the KPT-CAP programme to offer 20,000 job opportunities to graduates in 2022, the minister noted. He highlighted that the labour force has been recovering gradually since 2021, and a stronger recovery is expected this year.
