Malaysian immigration deports Bangladeshi workers

This follows allegations that a syndicate of recruiting agents monopolised the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers.

More than 60 Bangladeshi workers were barred entry and subsequently deported by Malaysian immigration department, despite having valid travel documents.

The Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies has said that the deportation was due to miscommunication between the hiring company and the recruiting agencies.

Sources said the workers had job visas for publicly listed company, Supermax Corporation, a latex glove conglomerate. However, the immigration documents of the deported workers listed different employers.

This incident is the latest in a series of controversies involving Bangladeshi recruiters sending workers to Malaysia.

The Malaysian government has already suspended the online recruitment system following allegations that a syndicate of 10 recruiting agencies monopolised the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.

The leader of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies has had talks with the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry, as well as the recruiting agencies involved regarding this issue.
