BBC axes 450 newsroom jobs

British broadcaster BBC has announced it will be cutting 450 jobs from its news division in a bid to cut cost.
The BBC employs around 6,000 people worldwide including Asia where they have offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul, Taipei, Dubai and Mumbai.
Declining audiences in its news programs and rising cost have led the British newsmaker to reorganise their cost structure.
“We need to reshape BBC News for the next decade in a way which saves substantial amounts of money,” said Fran Unsworth, Director of News and Current Affairs, BBC.
“We are spending too much of our resources on traditional linear broadcasting and not enough on digital.”
The job cuts will be part of the overall cost-cutting exercise as the BBC looks to meet a £80 million savings target by 2022.
