Nearly half of employers in India hired virtually in 2020

31% of employers said virtual hiring gave them wider access to talent, while 28% said that it allowed flexibility and convenience.

A survey by job portal Indeed revealed that 47% of employers in India hired only through virtual means during the COVID-19 pandemic, while nearly 33% used a combination of virtual and face-to-face hiring methods.

The survey also found that 31% of employers said virtual hiring gave them wider access to talent, while 28% said that it allowed flexibility and convenience – a priority for today’s jobseekers. 

Nearly one in five employers said that hiring virtually reduced bias in the recruitment process, with over 80% indicating that they only started hiring virtually due to the pandemic.  

The survey also showed that 26% of employers considered virtual hiring effective, and another 22% believe that it is the right way forward.

“With India having the world’s second-largest workforce, it can be a challenge to find the right hire, especially in the middle of a pandemic,” said Sashi Kumar, Managing Director of Indeed India. 

“In order to succeed, we need to acknowledge that the things that matter to jobseekers have changed. Employers have to reimagine their recruitment strategies to find great talent and create opportunities for growth,” said Kumar.
