Displaced workers in the Philippines will continue receiving support

Workers in Metro Manila and other regions who have lost their jobs will continue to receive support from the Philippines government, said the Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE is committed to deliver employment support to workers affected by the pandemic, said Labour Secretary Silvestre Bello III, according to Philstar Global. This includes the hiring of contact tracers from unemployed workers, which has been extended to local government units in Metro Manila to provide more jobs to people.
The department has also ramped up the implementation of its programme for displaced workers, known as TUPAD, which provides jobs for seasonal workers, those who are displaced, or underemployed for a minimum of 10 days but not exceeding 30 days.
“I am happy to see how the government, through DOLE, is able to bring assistance and relief to our workers,” Bello said.

So far, some 1,419 informal sector workers in Ormoc City have received P6.37 million (US$0.13 million) in wages from DOLE. In April, DOLE announced that it would set out an additional P65 million (US$1.36 million) of funds to hire 1,000 more contact tracers in Metro Manila.
