The Malaysian government remains committed to help those who have been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and in ensuring business continuity for firms.
“There is a balance of RM$8.1 billion (US$1.95 billion) that will be distributed until the end of this year (June-December), which includes the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) payment (RM$4.5 billion) and the monthly social welfare assistance (RM$1.25 billion),” said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz at a virtual press conference, reports Bernama.
The Wage Subsidy Programme still has a balance of RM$6 billion (US$1.44 billion) to be handed out, which can guarantee wage payments for 2.7 million workers affected by the pandemic, he said.

“The government also remains committed to ensuring business continuity by allocating about RM$14.1 billion in cash assistance for the business sector for 2021, and one million micro small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will receive their Prihatin Special Grant at the end of this month and in July,” he added.
The government will also focus on micro-lending programmes to help SMEs restart their businesses, the minister said.
