Factory owners in Malaysia urged to set up workplace vaccination centres
- Charles Chau
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this in a post on his Facebook page, adding that factories should contribute to economic growth and not be centres for the spread of COVID-19.
He said, “I have also discussed with Health Ministry’s secretary-general and Health director-general to ensure that foreign workers no longer have to queue and cause congestion at vaccination centres. Instead, they should just get vaccinated at their workplaces.”
The Malaysian government’s stance on the reopening of factories is that they are only permitted to do so after 80% of their workers have been vaccinated.

In addition, the prime minister said the drive-through vaccination initiative would be expanded soon so that the people would not have to wait longer than 15 minutes in their vehicles to get their COVID-19 inoculations, according to Bernama.
As of August 30, 46.6% or 14.9 million of Malaysia’s 32.7-million population have been fully vaccinated against COVD-19 with 34.5 million doses given, according to Our World in Data.
