Over 1.2 million jobseekers found jobs in the Philippines since January

Pre-pandemic, the public employment service office was facilitating over 2 million workers into jobs, said the Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE).

Over 1.2 million job applicants in the Philippines have secured jobs with the help of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) from January to August this year.

“Our PESO was able to facilitate about 1.2 million job seekers. They have been placed for employment,” said DOLE’s Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay, according to the Philippine News Agency

“This is not much compared to the more than 2 million that we are facilitating pre-pandemic. So, you would see the impact of COVID-19 when it comes to employment facilitation,” she said.

She added that it would be better if more establishments would be allowed to operate and “it would be better if we [opened] up our economy”.

“We are looking at the sectors in terms of our one million jobs project with the National Employment Recovery Strategy task force and the Employers Confederation of the Philippines,” she added.

These include the sectors of construction, manufacturing, Information Technology-Business Process Management, as well as hotel accommodation under the tourism sector, she said.

PESO aims to provide efficient employment services, timely information on the labour market, and programmes by the Department of Labour and Employment.
