Malaysia houses skills training under Human Resource Ministry

Training programmes should also be focused based on the skills needed in a particular area, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Malaysia will be placing all its skills training programmes under the Human Resource Ministry, in a move to streamline coordination.

“We have agreed to place them under one ministry for [better] coordination, because there were six ministries conducting courses. Sometimes the one that gains is the company giving the courses. Now, you can see that all ministries conduct courses but ultimately the programmes are similar,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, reports the New Straits Times

Training programmes should also be focused based on the skills needed in a particular area, such as oil and gas in Pengerang, Johor and tourism sector in Langkawi, he said.

The government aims to hold courses on relevant topics, and coordinate as best as possible to minimise money spent and maximise outcome, he added.

Prior to this, many ministries were implementing similar training programmes, which racked up costs and were duplicated efforts. “Do not hold courses on unsuitable matters. Now, we want to coordinate where possible, so as not to have too many [courses]”, the prime minister said.
