Indonesia pushes for gender indicators in business reports

Chair of the Business of Twenty (B20) Indonesia Forum Shinta Widjaja Kamdani said, “B20 Indonesia encourages affirmative action as policy recommendations to leaders in the G20 forum,” at a webinar titled “Rising to the Top on Thursday.”
Kamdani, who is also Deputy Chair of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association, also said women’s participation in the Indonesian workforce was lower than that of men. In 2020, the labour force participation of female workers was 53% compared to the 82% of male workers.
In addition, the number of women holding executive leadership positions such as chief executives and CEOs in 200 IDX companies showed no change since 2019.
She quoted a survey conducted by the International Labor Organisation (ILO) in 70 countries, which showed that gender equality and diversity helped to improve business performance, such as increasing productivity, profitability, creativity, innovation, and resilience. It also strengthens the company’s brand.

As such, she said Indonesia should expand efforts to realise gender equality through strong and effective actions. “We must take advantage to create an ecosystem in supporting female talent in the company. We must also recognise the importance of measuring and monitoring progress with fair gender equality,” she added, according to Antara.
