More Apple employees returning to the office

Apple has set a September 5 deadline for employees to return to the office at least three days a week. Employees are required to work from the office on Tuesdays, Thursdays and a regular third day that will be determined by individual teams.

Apple joins an increasing number of companies that have begun to mandate a full or partial return to the office as COVID-19 cases ease. The iPhone maker has been working towards getting its employees back in the office since June 2021, when it first announced the three-day policy. However, the plan was held back due to the rise of COVID-19 cases, leaving workers on a two-day-a-week schedule.

Speaking earlier this year at the TIME symposium in New York, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, described remote working as the “mother of all experiments”, and explained how the tech giant continues to search for a work model that incorporates both in-person and virtual work.

The key to a successful hybrid working arrangement is taking advantage of the strengths of both in-person and virtual engagement, he said, noting that the eventual model will look quite different from what is currently used.
