The Delhi government’s online job portal has seen a surge in jobseekers as the Indian city opened economic activities after a seven-week lockdown to curb the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Altogether, there were 75,000 connections made between jobseekers and employers in June, with a total of 34,212 job seekers newly registered and 9,522 new vacancies posted.
Official data by the government also showed that some 1,000 new jobseekers visited the portal on average each day.
Job listings have also picked up in June, with around 300 new jobs being posted on the portal daily. However, the number of employment opportunities still lags behind the demand.
As at July 1st, the top three sectors with the most available vacancies are customer support, delivery executives and sales and business development. Almost half (45%) of the vacancies listed were available for fresh graduates. Almost 41% of jobs are open for both genders, while 23% are for females, and 36% for males.

The job portal was launched in July 2020, aimed to help those who lost their jobs during the nationwide lockdown and to help boost the economy, according to Hindustan Times.
