The Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Zaqy Mohamad has thrown his weight behind the need for HR teams to use technology and to invest in developing HR professionals. Speaking at the Singapore HR Awards 2019, organised by the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) he said: ‘’HR technology solutions, in particular, can free up HR professionals from more transactional tasks, and build up HR teams’ capacity to improve workforce outcomes. For example, HR professionals can tap on tech to identify skills gaps and propose ways to develop the workforce in line with business needs, and also introduce initiatives that better engage the workforce and build a stronger organisational culture’’.

Newly-elected SHRI President Ms Low Peck Kem spoke at the awards ceremony to congratulate the winners, including in-flight catering provider SATS which won 11 awards and business consultancy firm GEX Ventures which picked up 6 awards. She wants to collaborate more with key strategic partners in the HR ecosystem including HRM Asia.

‘’I am heartened that more companies are investing in their human capital, and developing strong HR practices and processes, which is in line with this year’s theme of “Honouring Human Capital. Driving Business Excellence”. HR is becoming increasingly important for business transformation, as they support the workforce development and transformation that is crucial to business success,’’ Ms Low said.
