Japan rolling out digital training programmes to foster tech skills

The Japanese government is planning to roll out digital training programmes to equip those who are unemployed and non-regular workers with digital skills. 

The educational programmes are slated to start in fiscal 2022, and are likely to be free of charge, reports The Japan News. The programmes will initially be offered at 25 universities and technical schools across the country, and will accept some 750 participants. 

The pandemic has impacted the employment market, affecting over 120,000 workers, according to the Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry. These included workers who were retrenched and those who were not offered contract renewals.

Participants who complete foundation courses in information security and programming are also expected to be offered work opportunities. Courses on topics like data analysis, deep learning and the Internet of Things will also be launched and are expected to cater to about 300 participants.
