Talent mismatch improves in Singapore’s job market

A drop in the mismatch reflects Singapore’s strong economy as the job landscape evolves with employers and job seekers adjusting.

Singapore faces a shrinking “talent mismatch” between the number and types of jobs that employers have available, and the talent that is currently looking for work. This is according to new data released by global jobsearch platform Indeed.

Its talent mismatch index fell eight percentage points over the four years to May, 2019 reflecting the strong economy in Singapore and successful efforts to reskill talent for the digital era.

Singapore’s results are comparable to the United Kingdom’s mismatch rate, lower than Australia, and slightly higher than both the US and Canada. However, there are still talent shortages in place, particularly for technology and sales roles.

Occupation groups such as customer service representatives, driver and teachers have fewer employment opportunities and an oversupply of candidates. Meanwhile, there are talent shortages in roles such as Data Scientist, Software Engineer, and Business Development Manager.
