UOB launches digital courses for 26,000 employees

United Overseas Bank launches L&D programmes to prepare staff for the digital future in the rapidly-changing financial services sector.

Employees need to stay relevant in today’s digital age, especially in the banking sector which is undergoing dramatic changes. In response to this, UOB has launched courses to prepare its 26,000 employees for the future.

This includes a 12-week foundation course called “Better U” which focuses on five core competences to help encourage a growth mindset, develop problem-solving skills and to learn about digital innovation, human-centred design and data.

In this age of gamification, most modules have been designed as games or interactive team-based formats to create a more engaging learning experience. UOB has introduced two progression pathways for data management and project management, depending on employees’ strengths.

UOB says the new programme is the first such training initiative that covers both soft skills along with digital and data skills to receive accreditation by the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF).

Staff upskilling is moving up the list of priorities for companies as they undertake their own digital transformations. The banking industry faces intense competition internally along with the external threats from fintech startups.
