Australia’s upskilling programme sees over 270,000 sign-ups

Australia has launched a nationwide push to get more of its citizens to sign up for its jobs upskilling programme.

JobTrainer provides access for those eligible to free or low-fee courses, preparing workers for fast-growing industries like health, aged care and disability support, digital skills, and trades. 

So far, the programme has seen 271,038 Australians enrolled to upskill or reskill for a career in a priority industry.  In total, the expanded A$2 billion (US$1.43 billion) JobTrainer Fund is expected to provide around 463,000 additional training places to help plug skill gaps.

“If you want to change jobs, or get into a job, JobTrainer is a one-way ticket to skills that will land you one, it is a great deal for Australians and a win-win for our economy,” said Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert.

“The latest job vacancy figures show there are hundreds of thousands of jobs across a range of exciting industries available right now and there’s money on the table for you to get skills to work in them,” the minister added.
