Indonesia closes workplace gender gap through tripartite collaboration

The private sector, the government and non-governmental organisations have been urged to improve skills and promote women leadership.

To reduce the gender gap in the workplace will require the involvement of multiple parties, said Indra Gunawan, the people’s participation acting deputy at the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry.

The three parties comprise the private sector, the government and non-governmental organisations, and the gender gap can be narrowed through collective efforts like the dissemination of information and the development of supporting policies and programmes, said Gunawan, who spoke at the G20 Empower webinar, according to Antara.

G20 Empower is one of the working groups under Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, which is working on boosting women’s leadership and empowerment in the private sector. This is done through prompting good practices adopted by companies, as well as collaborating with governments to encourage women’s leadership.

Women’s limited skills and abilities affect their recruitment, which results in a wage gap and also affects their capability to continue to improve their careers, added Gunawan.

“We will continue to involve these advocates to promote the importance of women’s leadership in the business world,” he noted.
