Delhi sees rise in monthly minimum wages for unskilled employees

The monthly minimum wages of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled employees in Delhi, India’s capital, has been raised, Raaj Kumar Anand, Delhi’s Labour Minister has announced.

Taking effect from October 1 this year, the monthly wage of skilled employees has been increased from IR 20,903 (US$251.27) to IR 21,215 (US$255.28). Semi-skilled employees rose from IR 18,993 (US$228.31) to IR 19,279 (US $231.75). Similarly, there has been an increase of IR 260 in the monthly wages of unskilled labourers from Rs 17,234 (207.17) to IR 17,494. (US $210.29).

Similarly, skilled managers and clerical employees in the Indian state will benefit from new raised rates of minimum wages, including a rise of IR 286 (USD$3.44) for non-matric employees The monthly salary of matriculation pass and non-graduate employees has increased by IR 312 (US $3.75), and graduates and higher-educated labourers had their monthly minimum wages increased from IR 22,744 (US $ 273.40) to IR 23,082 (US$ 277.40)

This increase in minimum wages for all sectors across industries was triggered by the Delhi government looking to give some relief to the rising economic challenges aggravated by high inflation and other factors that have impacted all segments of society, said Anand, adding, “The minimum wage given to labourers in Delhi is the highest as compared to any other state in the country.”

This increase of minimum monthly wages will benefit unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and other employees in all scheduled employment categories, reported dajiworld.com. Anand urged that employees working in the unorganised sector should also get the benefit of dearness allowance -a calculation on inflation and allowance paid to government employees and pensioners – along with minimum wages, which is usually given to state and central government employees.
