Amid business transformation taking place in industries, workers with career counselling and coaching-related skills have increased in demand, according to a SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) report.

The skills in demand involve those with capability development and performance management, against a backdrop where people are pivoting in their careers and the need increases for personalised advice to enhance workplace performance.

Hiring demand for career coaches have risen by 93% from 2Q2021 to 1Q2022. Companies hiring for such roles include those in the sectors of energy, info-communications technology, consulting and recruitment, and financial services.

“Workplace learning has grown in importance as it continues to augment the organisation’s learning culture while addressing other urgent issues like tackling skills gaps and preparing the workforce with skills required for changing business priorities,” highlighted the report.

Workplace learning can take place through avenues like in-house training sessions, on-the-job coaching, and self-initiated learning, such as through online platforms, said SSG.
