With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) continuing to impact the job market pursuing individual passions and interests should drive how people think about their career projection and what career or profession to choose, said Elon Musk.
Speaking with CNBC, the billionaire and tech mogul emphasised the need to derive personal fulfilment from one’s chosen work and then striving to make a meaningful contribution to society. While acknowledging that AI could surpass human capabilities in various professions, Musk pushed for the significance of people finding purpose beyond mere job performance.

He also advised against over worrying about how AI can steal jobs, which discourages and demotivates. To remain motivated and determined in their career journey, people must continuously suspend disbelief, as Musk highlighted, “You know, how do we find meaning in life if AI could do your job better than we can? I mean, if I think about it too hard, it can be just dispiriting and demotivating.”
He concluded by advising youths to find work that gives them personal fulfilment, and to follow their passions, as leveraging on their desires and individual strengths could help them circumvent any challenges presented by AI and embrace advancing technology.
