Job ads in Malaysia rose in second quarter of 2021

Roles in the professional, scientific and technical sectors contributed to the bulk of job opportunities for candidates.

Job advertisements by various companies in Malaysia rose for the fourth straight quarter to 90,502 in Q2′ 2021, from 90,218 in the previous quarter and 19,169 in Q2′ 2020, according to data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. 

“The top five most popular jobs advertised by employers are advertising and marketing professionals, administrative associate professionals, managing directors and chief executives, accountants and auditors and software developers,” Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement. 

Roles in the professional, scientific and technical sectors contributed to the bulk of job opportunities for candidates, comprising 18.5% of jobs in 2Q2021. 

The other key sectors offering roles include manufacturing activities (18.1%); wholesale and retail trade, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles activities (17.9%); financial and insurance activities (8%); and accommodation and food service activities (3.5%). 

In terms of location, Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest number of job vacancies (46.6%), followed by Selangor (19.6%), Johor (7.1%), Penang (6.2%) and Perak (1.4%).

“The increase of online job vacancies advertised in the 2Q21 has shown that the country’s economy is on the right path of recovery in the upcoming quarters if the implementation of [the] National Recovery Plan succeeded in reducing the impact of the pandemic and facilitating the recovery of the country’s economy,” he added.
