Malaysia launches new career initiatives to boost employment
As part of efforts to boost employment rates and grow careers in Malaysia, the government has introduced the 2023 Madani Career Initiatives, which include the Daya Kerjaya programme and the Bina Kerjaya programme.
The Daya Kerjaya programme offers financial incentives to employers who hire long-term unemployed youth, women, persons with disabilities, indigenous people of Malaysia (Orang Asli), vocational training graduates, parolees, former convicts, and those from poor backgrounds.
Employers who participate in the Daya Kerjaya programme will receive financial incentives of RM600 (US$136) per month for a duration of three months, starting from the date of hire. The incentives will be applicable for new hires from 1 January 2023, and applications for the incentives can be submitted by employers beginning 1 April 2023.
The Bina Kerjaya programme is aimed at strengthening the labour market to increase the potential of individuals working in the informal sector to obtain formal employment through studies. The programme will cover training fees of up to RM4,000 (US$910) and an allowance of RM300 (US$68) per month for a maximum of three months.
Additionally, V Sivakumar, Malaysia’s Minister of Human Resources, said that the government will focus on developing the MYFutureJobs satellite centres in urban transformation centres nationwide to provide employers and jobseekers with faster and easier access to jobs. Launched in 2021, MYFutureJobs is an initiative that serves as a one-stop centre for career services such as profiling, career counselling, and employability activities, reported The Edge Markets.
