SHRI’s Hearts & Hands kicked off with 160 volunteers from SHRI’s network of HR professionals and business leaders, who collectively packed 3,000 charity bags filled with essential food items to be distributed to underprivileged families across Singapore.
Urging Asia’s HR community to join a growing movement, the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) has launched Hearts & Hands, its inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Embodying the spirit of empathy and action, Hearts & Hands kicked off with 160 volunteers from SHRI’s network of HR professionals and business leaders, who collectively packed 3,000 charity bags filled with essential food items to be distributed to underprivileged families across Singapore.
Alvin Aloysius Goh, Executive Director of SHRI, told HRM Asia, “SHRI’s Hearts & Hands initiative highlights the unique power of HR to drive positive change. At its core, the HR community is people-centric – it’s what draws many of us to this vocation. Our roles give us the ability to shape organisational culture by embedding empathy, collaboration, and purpose, encouraging teams to step beyond their duties and engage in meaningful acts of service.”
The Hearts & Hands initiative not only marks the beginning of SHRI’s sustained commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, but will also strengthen a culture of giving back and self-fulfilment.
Goh explained, “Long-term projects at work can sometimes leave teams feeling burnt out, as results take time to materialise. Yet, the smaller, visible goals achieved during events like Hearts & Hands offer a sense of immediate impact and accomplishment. Stepping out of the office to work towards a shared purpose – one that benefits others – helps lighten the load of daily tasks and boosts team morale.”
Highlighting that SHRI’s goal is to build a legacy of positive change, Goh believes that like work, social responsibility efforts offer the potential to transcend borders. For instance, SHRI is looking to collaborate with the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) to inspire a regional movement. By partnering with HR leaders across various APAC countries, SHRI aims to develop initiatives that address shared challenges, tailored to the unique needs and passions of each community, Goh shared.

He added, “I’m glad we have planted a seed, and I look forward to watching it grow into a regional movement where giving back becomes a defining feature of how we do business across Asia. Together, we can lead by example and show that shared responsibility is not just an aspiration but a cornerstone of sustainable success.”
“Empowering our members to give back strengthens the fabric of our society and inspires future generations of HR leaders to lead with compassion and social impact at the forefront.”
