Popular video-sharing platform TikTok has appointed Chew Shou Zi as the company’s new CEO. Chew, who is Singaporean, only joined TikTok’s parent company ByteDance as Chief Financial Officer in March 2021, after leaving Xiaomi.

Based in Singapore, Chew will work closely with Vanessa Pappas, who led TikTok on an interim basis after the abrupt departure of former CEO Kevin Mayer. With Chew’s appointment as CEO, Pappas will now assume the position of Chief Operating Officer for TikTok.

“We will continue building out our strong and deep management team as we set the stage for the next phase of TikTok’s success,” said Chew.

The announcement of Chew as CEO was also described by TikTok as a “strategic reorganisation to optimise TikTok’s global teams and support the company’s unprecedented growth.”

Zhang Yiming, founder and CEO of ByteDance, added, “The leadership team of Shou and Vanessa sets the stage for sustained growth.”
