Carving a bigger share of a US$400b pie in Singapore

Singapore’s embrace of HR innovation is fomenting change both in Singapore and abroad, Minister of State for Manpower and National Development Zaqy Mohamad said today.

Speaking on the Plenary Stage of HR Festival Asia, the event’s official Guest of Honour said that much of that success has been rooted in the HR Industry Manpower Plan implemented in 2017.

It focuses on professional development and the use of HR technology to build capacity. By identifying, training and elevating individuals with the right skills and aptitude, Singaporean companies have amplified effectiveness while reducing costs, he said.

The minister revealed that the government had designed its initiatives to be accessible to HR professionals, as well as both small and large employers. More than 1,100 HR professionals have been certified under the national IHRP Certification Framework, while more than 550 companies, employing more than 190,000 locals, have been recognised for their progressive Human Capital practices as Human Capital Partnership Programme Partners.

The Ministry of Manpower has formed an advisory panel to lead efforts to further develop the HR services sector in Singapore and to support HR professionals through business transformation. It comprises, HR and business leaders, as well as representatives from the HR services sector and tripartite partners.
