India looks to increase senior citizen employment with jobs portal

It will allow for full-time, part-time, freelance and pro-bono work arrangements, and might include retaining and re-skilling options for older workers.

Since October 1, senior citizens in India have been able to seek job opportunities on a dedicated employment platform set up by the government.

Senior citizens above 60 years of age will be able to search for a job through the virtual platform, after registering their experience, education, skills, and areas of interest.

It will allow for full-time, part-time, freelance and pro-bono work arrangements, and might include retaining and re-skilling options for older workers.

Those who can apply for jobs include retired personnel from armed forces, Reserve Bank of India, state-owned banks, and retired former state and central government employees.

The platform might bring together various stakeholders for giving work opportunities to the elderly, said Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary R Subramanyam, according to India Today
