More job opportunities for disabled workers in the Philippines
The Philippines’ Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) plans to increase job opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the public and private sector by increasing the quota for hiring under the category.
“We support the move to increase the quota in employing PWDs in all government positions from one percent to at least two percent. We also support the call to make it mandatory for private establishments with over 100 employees to allocate one percent for PWDs,” said DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma.
“We vow to continue pushing for the rights of the workers with disabilities toward their personal and societal advancement,” he noted.
Under the country’s current regulations, at least 1% of all positions in government agencies, offices, or corporations should be reserved for PWDs. Meanwhile, private firms with over 100 workers are encouraged to reserve at least 1% of all positions for PWDs.
