Shopee sees talent pool doubling in near future

Shopee moves to new headquarters in Singapore, as Asia's Silicon Valley houses expanding technology talent.

Online retailer Shopee has moved into a new six-story headquarters in Singapore this week, with the bigger office designed to cater to its growing talent pool and boost productivity. Currently, Shopee has a 1,500-strong team, with most of those employees under 30 years of age,  Lim Teck Yong, Head of Regional Operations and the People Team, told HRM Asia.

He added that with Shopee’s current pace of expansion, he could see the company double in its people strength soon. The new  premises could absorb up to 3,000 people. The online retailer counts web developers, UX researchers, SEO specialists, web writers, online security experts, software engineers and coders among its employees.

Zhou Junjie, Chief Commercial Officer, said that Shopee aimed to create employment opportunities for those who were keen to go into the tech industry. The company also remained committed to elevating Singapore’s attractiveness as a tech hub, he said.

“Expanding the tech talent pipeline and nurturing an entrepreneurial ecosystem for sellers and SMEs will continue to be an area of focus for us,” Zhou said.
