HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2020: Leveraging technology in the new world of work

As organisations look to adapt to a new world of work post-pandemic, embracing the right technologies is likely to be key.

As new work requirements emerge because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some companies have delayed purchasing and implementation plans for some solutions. For others, implementations have been aggressively moved up to accommodate urgent workforce needs.

Collectively however, it is technology that has kept these businesses operational during the pandemic, suggested Josh Bersin, global industry analyst and dean of the Josh Bersin Academy.

In his keynote presentation at HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2020 titled HR technology priorities for the post-COVID era, Bersin will discuss how the pandemic has shifted HR technology priorities and highlight the solutions he believes are providing the greatest immediate value.

Drawing on the hundreds of conversations he has conducted with HR leaders over the last six months, as well as from recent research into HR practices implemented as responses to the pandemic, Bersin will also identify solutions that will be critical for sustaining and growing businesses in the post-COVID-era.

In the new distributed team environment created by the pandemic, many business meetings are now taking place in virtual rooms, where workers need to acquire a new skillset in order to leverage this environment, suggested David Shirley, partner at Flex We Are, a consultancy firm.

He added, “There are new technologies to master and new ways to think about how we create engaging presentations. Waiting for it to be normal again is not a plan that has got a future. Forget about national/international business travel, we are not travelling across the city for a meeting at the moment!”

At HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2020, Shirley, during his presentation titled “Win the virtual room”: Leveraging technology in a post COVID-19 distributed team environment, he will present a framework to implement team technologies in a flexible work environment.

He will also introduce team protocols that best fit an organisation, core technologies that will help build a collaborative and flexible team, as well as principles that will support effective communication in an online environment.

Shirley concluded, “Knowing how to create an engaging presentation for an online audience, knowing how to drive the technologies and then bringing both of those together to deliver for success is necessary for those who need to influence and ‘win the virtual room’.”
