Creating a diversified, equitable, and inclusive workplace
- Shawn Liew
As the world celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) today, many organisations are beginning to realise the importance of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in creating engaged and productive employees.
A successful DE&I strategy can also be critical in driving business outcomes and in retaining the best talent, including women. Are organisations however, doing enough to support their female employees, and making them feel like they belong?
From work-life balance to pay equity and many employee experience drivers, women feel that they are not being supported as much as men. They are also a quarter less likely than men to say there are Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that help them feel connected, or that their organisation supports them in developing and maintaining friendships at work.
These insights were derived from Achievers’ Culture of Belonging at Work and D&I Insights reports, which also highlighted that women are 20% less likely to say their unique background and identity are valued at their company; women are 25% less likely to say they feel comfortable sharing a different opinion with the expectation that it will be valued; and only 22% of women feel a strong sense of belonging at their workplace, compared to 31% of men.
With IWD 2022 advocating for a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, where difference is valued and celebrated through the breaking of bias, it is imperative that organisations do more to create a culture of DE&I that supports all employees, including female talent, who have arguably been more adversely impacted by the pandemic than their male counterparts.
