HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2020: Employee communications at the heart of thriving work cultures
- Shawn Liew
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause major disruptions to the workforce, how organisations communicate with their employees will be integral to building business resiliency and successful business continuity planning.
Without effectively engaging and communicating with their employees, organisations simply would not be able to build high-performing work cultures, suggested Jeanne Achille, founder and CEO of The Devon Group, and Conference Chair, Women in HR Tech Summit, US and Singapore.
“Historically, there’s significant focus on building high-performing cultures. However, many companies have failed to put employee communications at the core. Culture and communications go hand-in-hand, and given the impact of COVID-19, most workforces are remote making a disciplined approach to employee communications even more important.”
At HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2020, which is taking place from September 29 to October 1, Achille will, through her session titled How to Build Business Resilience Through Better Communications, examine how authentic and transparent communications motivate workers, create trust and help to win market share.
Achille, who is also organising and hosting the Women In HR Technology sessions at HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2020, will also discuss why HR needs to work closely with leadership to ensure communications alleviate the emotional pressure being experienced by workers, and instead, establish passion and purpose.
Not doing so, she highlighted, is no longer an option. “By failing to engage employees frequently and meaningfully, a company risks impacting productivity, customer satisfaction and its long-term economic viability.”

At Shopee, while the user needs of their customers are always a priority, equally important is the emphasis placed on creating a vibrant work environment, as well as a fun and collaborative culture.

We want to become better versions of ourselves and build a culture where work becomes more than just a job. That’s where Shopee’s People team comes in. We design programmes that unite teams to innovate and promote fun through learning.”
During her presentation, Lua will provide more insights into Shopee’s engagement and learning strategy, which focuses on developing employees professionally, building closer bonds, and uniting teams together to innovate.
