Fostering organisational change with human development

CHRO Malaysia brings over 150 HR leaders together to explore “HR 2024 and Beyond”, unlocking human development secrets and shaping the future of work.

Organisations are engaged in a constant battle to attract, retain, and develop top-tier talent, and CHROs are emerging as strategic partners in this dynamic environment, assuming a role in shaping organisational and workforce transformation.

As organisations prepare for the challenges and opportunities of 2024 and beyond, HRM Asia’s CHRO Malaysia convenes over 150 CHROs to foster the exchange of insights, best practices, and innovative strategies for achieving success under the theme HR 2024 and Beyond: How CHROs Can Shape Organisational and Workforce Transformation.

One of the intriguing conference sessions at CHRO Malaysia is the panel discussion titled Applying Human Development at Work: What’s The Secret Formula for Success?, which will unearth the integral role of human development (HD) in modern organisations and uncover the elusive formula for success.

During this panel discussion, attendees will be privy to real-world examples of how leading employers have successfully implemented HD strategies across their organisations. The session will be moderated by Nadiah Tan Abdullah, CHRO at S P Setia and the Regional Chair ASEAN of the ASEAN Human Development Organisation (AHDO); and feature a panel made up of Ahmad Bukhari Mohd Yunus, Shell Global Head of Talent Upstream (Development, Wells and Exploration); Chen Fong Tuan, Senior Executive Vice-President (Group Human Capital), Maybank; and Anjali Menon, HR Director, Asia-Pacific, Sibelco.

Another thought-provoking session titled HR Trends Overview 2024: Building the Future Organisation Today will be moderated by Dr Vinika Rao, Executive Director, INSEAD Africa Initiative and Hoffmann Global Institute for Business and Society, Asia Adjunct Professor, INSEAD, who will be joined by Mitzie Antonio, HR Director at Nestle Malaysia and Singapore; Then Sik Kwang, Head of HR, DHL IT Services; Sugunah Verumandy, Country Head of HR, HSBC, and Koljit Singh, Senior HR Practitioner and Council Member of the Malaysia Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM).

Dr Rao, in an interview with HRM Asia, succinctly summarised the challenges and opportunities that HR will face in 2024 and beyond as “Flexify or Fail” and “Customise to Conquer”. She said the challenge for HR leaders will be to balance the needs of an increasingly diverse workforce that expects flexible and customised solutions, and explained, “The workforce now has a wider range of employees working together today than ever before in terms of age span, gender identities, orientations, races, geographies, and more, with varying needs and more vocalised expectations influencing their decisions on where to work and for how long.”

“The opportunity for HR leaders will be to optimise people analytics and AI to enhance organisational agility and take on a more directly impactful business leadership role than may have been expected of them in the past.”

As the world becomes increasingly tumultuous, with new crises exposing both human and artificial employees, their managers will need to be innovative, equitable, and agile, minimising disruption, enhancing employee wellbeing, and ensuring a positive impact on the planet and the people they influence, she added.
