Shaping the future of work in ASEAN

The pandemic has highlighted the urgent need to address growing insecurities in the world of work. In South-East Asia, this includes considering the differing abilities of businesses and workers to adapt to accelerated digital transformation, differing levels of access to training and skills upgrading, as well as challenges faced in developing an inclusive workplace culture that supports mental well-being and work life harmony.
In an exclusive collaboration with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower and the Regional Centre for the Future of Work, HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2021 is bringing back the popular ASEAN Future of Work conference track. Taking place on Thursday, September 23, the conference track will bring together regional senior government, union, and employer representatives, to share lessons learnt from COVID-19 on promoting inclusivity in the future world of work.
Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Manpower, Singapore, will be kicking off HR Tech Festival Asia Online 2021 with the opening remarks on Tuesday, September 21, while Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN, will flag off the ASEAN Future of Work conference with his opening remarks on Thursday, September 22.
Jacqueline Gwee, Director and Founder, aAdvantage Consulting, will then moderate a panel discussion with Sunil Setlur, Chief People Officer, Go-Jek; and Thomas Mathew, Group CEO, Talent Corporation Malaysia, as they discuss how organisations can harness the potential of hybrid work for a more inclusive future of work.
To discuss the role that tripartite partners can play to build a conducive and inclusive workplace to support mental well-being and work-life harmony, Dr Francis Yeoh, President, Singapore Association for Mental Health, will moderate a panel discussion that includes Evelyn Kwek, Managing Director, ASEAN/ANZ, Great Place to Work Institute, Singapore; Bicky Bhangu, President, South-East Asia, Pacific & South Korea, Rolls Royce Singapore; and Michelle Baxter, CEO of Safe Work Australia.
Carolyn Chin-Parry, Managing Director and Digital Innovation Leader, PwC Singapore; and Daryl Neo, Corporate Planning and Strategy Manager, Omni-Plus Systems, will discuss how tripartite leaders can support businesses and workers to reskill and upskill during COVID-19, especially for SMEs, displaced workers, and lower-wage workers, so that lifelong learning and reskilling can be a reality for all.
Rounding off the ASEAN Future of Work conference track is a discussion on the trends that are expected to impact the way we work in 2022. Josie Kang, Vice-President, Human Capital, Human Capital Leadership Institute; and Indranil Roy, Executive Director, Consulting Human Capital Leadership, Deloitte Consulting South-East Asia, will highlight how employers and business leaders can rethink their workplaces, work models and workflows to develop a human-centred strategy for the future of work.
